How often do you water vegetable garden beds?
Your watering regime will depend on your soil, the weather and the needs of each crop. Lettuce, for example, must stay evenly moist, while beans can dry out a bit between waterings. Read plant labels religiously for water requirements. Because novices tend to overwater, check your soil before irrigating: Dig a little hole with a trowel. If the top inch of soil is dry, it's probably time to water. Use soaker hoses, which gently seep water with minimal evaporation and waste. Leave soakers on for a couple hours. Attach a timer to the faucet to automate the process. Yellowing leaves indicate too much water. Wilting or fainting plants are a sign they're thirsty.
