What could this dream possibly mean?

Warning before you read any further: this is really gross! I had a dream last night that I was with someone I know - someone with whom let's just say I have a very difficult and trying relationship. We were outside and he was eating something (I think it was a roll), when all of a sudden he coughed up a couple of small maggot-like worms or larvae which landed on his plate. I was completely shocked and sickened by it. I ran with the plate to the nearest trash can and said we should get him to the doctor/emergency room. Later, I thought we should have put those things in some kind of container to show them to the doctor but at the time I was so grossed out by it that I followed my first impulse, to dispose of them. He wasn't as shook as I was by it and in fact seemed rather calm considering what just happened. His response was something like, "I guess that medicine isn't working" or "I guess I need some different medicine". I totally didn't know what to make of this and that's when I woke up.
