What should my co-worker do with their dog?

This is an old dog and the reason it is drinking and weeing all the time is because it has a liver or kidney problem. This is typical of all old dogs and cats. If your friend has been to the vets the vet should have done a blood test for this and tablets can help prolong the life of the dog. If the dog is a female it is more likely to be incontinent in later stages of life as she may have had puppies. All animals get like this even humans. The blood from the rectum is dangerous, it could be an internal cyst or something the dog ate or cancer of the bowel. The vet really needs to check this out. If the vet will not operate on the sore eyes she needs to get a second opinion, because if the dog is suffering then your friend should rely be considering the quality of life for the dog and take the chance that the dog may die in the operation after having a good life than suffering with very sore eyes until it finally does which in my opinion would be cruel.
